The U.S. Senate Youth Program Washington Week is a competitive merit-based initiative that brings outstanding high school students from around the nation to the capital for an intensive study of the federal government and the people who lead it. For 2025, Henry Clay High School senior Peter Jefferson and a senior from Jefferson County will join Sen. Mitch McConnell and Sen. Rand Paul in representing Kentucky at the 63rd annual program, slated for March 1-8. All activities are funded by The Hearst Foundations.

Peter was selected from among the state’s top student leaders to be part of the 104-student delegation that will attend meetings and briefings with senators, the president, a justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, leaders of Cabinet agencies, and others. Each delegate will also receive a $10,000 college scholarship. Kiitan Adedeji, a senior at Lafayette High School, was chosen as an alternate for Kentucky.
