Henry Clay JROTC Cadets Earn National Kudos

Henry Clay High School students Liam Detjen (team captain), Carter Deacon, Joshua Jones, Courtney Tabb, and Carlie Sons competed this summer in the U.S. Army JROTC Leadership Bowl in Washington, D.C. Their team earned a finalist plaque, and each cadet brought home the Douglas MacArthur Foundation Medal and the George C. Marshall Foundation Medal. Only about 275 cadets out of over 530,000 in the nation receive these honors.

Henry Clay advanced to the finals after this spring’s online competition covering current events, leadership values, skills, and financial literacy.

“Qualifying for the national competition as one of the top 40 schools out of over 3,000 is a monumental accomplishment. Finishing 28th at the national level truly highlights the dedication and hard work of our cadets,” said Principal Tony Blackman.

Lt. Col. (ret.) Robert Mason, a JROTC instructor, agreed. “This was a wonderful experience, and we are already preparing for next year's competition,” he said.
